Eiffel Tower Poses for Couples: 12 Natural Ideas From a Paris Photographer

4 min read

Most couples who book an Eiffel Tower photoshoot tell me the same thing: "We never know what to do in photos." Good news: you don't need to. I'm Max, a Paris photographer with more than 10 years of experience, and I photograph couples at the Eiffel Tower almost every week. Here are the poses I use most, why they work, and a few tips so you look like yourselves, not like a magazine ad.

Before the poses: where you stand matters

The same pose looks completely different depending on the spot. At Trocadéro you get the whole Tower behind you, perfect for wide shots. On Bir-Hakeim bridge, the arches add a frame and some depth. Along the Seine and on the Champ de Mars, it's easier to find quiet corners for closer, more intimate photos. I choose the spot for each pose, so you don't have to think about it. See all the spots on my Eiffel Tower photoshoot page.

12 couple poses at the Eiffel Tower

1. Walking toward the camera, hand in hand

The easiest way to start. You walk slowly, talk to each other and forget about me. Natural from the very first photo.

2. One of you looks back

While walking, one partner turns toward the camera with a smile. Simple, and very flattering with the Tower in the background.

3. Foreheads together

Face each other, foreheads touching, eyes closed. A quiet, romantic photo that works for every couple, even the shy ones.

4. The hug from behind

One partner hugs the other from behind, both looking at the Tower or at each other. A classic at Trocadéro.

5. The almost-kiss

Get close, as if you're about to kiss, and stop just before. It often makes couples laugh, which gives you the next photo too.

6. The twirl

One partner spins the other. It works especially well with a dress or a long coat that moves.

7. Whisper something funny

One of you whispers something in the other's ear. What you say is up to you, but the laugh that follows is always real.

8. Sitting together

On a bench or the lawn of the Champ de Mars, leaning into each other. A relaxed break in the middle of the session that often gives some of the best photos.

9. A kiss on the forehead

One partner kisses the other's forehead while they close their eyes. Tender, and easy for couples who aren't comfortable kissing in public.

10. Under the arches of Bir-Hakeim

Walking or standing close under the colonnade, with the lines of the bridge leading to you. Elegant and slightly cinematic.

11. The dip

For the adventurous. It usually takes two tries to get right, and both are usually funny.

12. The ring close-up

For engagements and proposals: hands together, the ring in focus, the Tower softly blurred behind. Planning to pop the question? See my Eiffel Tower proposal page.

What makes a pose look natural

  • Movement first: walking, turning, laughing. Still poses come later, once you're relaxed.

  • Hands with a job: holding hands, a hand on the other's jacket, adjusting a scarf. Hands that don't know where to go look stiff.

  • Look at each other, not at me. Many of the best photos are the ones where you forget the camera.

  • I guide every detail: where to stand, where to look, how close to get. If you like, I show you the pose first.

Poses at night

After dark, the lit Tower changes everything. Closer poses work best (hugs, foreheads together, the almost-kiss), because I place you carefully in the light of the Tower and the street lamps. Time it with the sparkle at the top of the hour, and even a simple walk becomes a special photo. See my guide to an Eiffel Tower night photoshoot.

How long, and how much?

For a couple, I recommend 1 hour: enough time to relax, change spots and try most of the poses above. Sessions start from €160 for 30 minutes (10 edited photos). I edit every photo myself, and your private online gallery arrives within 5 working days. All details on my couple photoshoot page and the prices page.

Frequently asked questions

We're awkward in photos. Will the poses still look natural?

Yes. I start with simple movement, guide every pose and adjust small details. Most couples feel comfortable within a few minutes.

What is the best spot for couple photos at the Eiffel Tower?

Trocadéro for the full Tower behind you, Bir-Hakeim bridge for a more cinematic frame, and the Seine or the Champ de Mars for quieter, closer photos.

Do you show us the poses?

Yes. I explain or show each pose, and tell you where to stand, where to look and what to do with your hands.

Can we do an engagement photoshoot at the Eiffel Tower?

Yes. Engagement sessions follow the same approach, with a few close-ups of the ring. See my couple photoshoot page for details.
