Eiffel Tower Night Photoshoot: When to Go, Where to Stand and What to Expect

4 min read

Daytime photos at the Eiffel Tower are beautiful. But when the Tower lights up in gold after dark, the whole atmosphere changes: the city calms down, the light becomes warm and elegant, and your photos look like nothing you could take with a phone. I've photographed the Tower at night for years, and here is everything you need to know to plan your Eiffel Tower night photoshoot.

Why choose a night photoshoot at the Eiffel Tower

  • The golden lights: the Tower glows above you and gives a warm, cinematic feel to every photo.

  • The sparkles: for five minutes at the start of every hour, 20,000 lights sparkle all over the Tower. It's the moment everyone waits for.

  • A different Paris: fewer day-trippers, a calmer mood, and a more elegant, evening look.

  • Perfect for special moments: proposals, anniversaries, birthdays and evening outfits look even better at night.

When does the Eiffel Tower light up and sparkle?

The golden lighting switches on automatically at nightfall. Once it's on, the Tower sparkles for five minutes at the top of every hour, until the lights go off around midnight (later in summer). In practice, that means:

  • In winter (November to February): the Tower lights up around 5:30pm, so a session can start in daylight and finish with the Tower lit up.

  • In spring and autumn: night falls between about 7pm and 8:30pm.

  • In summer (June and July): it only gets dark after 10pm, so night sessions start late.

When we book, I check the exact time of nightfall for your date and plan the session so we're in position for at least one sparkle.

The blue hour: the best of both worlds

My favorite moment is the "blue hour", the short window just after sunset. The sky is still deep blue instead of black, the Tower is already lit, and faces stay soft and natural. For many clients, a session that starts before sunset and ends during the blue hour gives the most varied gallery: golden light, then blue sky, then the Tower sparkling.

The best spots for an Eiffel Tower night photoshoot

Trocadéro

The classic view of the Tower from across the Seine. At night, the esplanade is lively, but it stays the most impressive viewpoint for the sparkles, and I know where to stand to keep clean backgrounds.

Bir-Hakeim bridge

The arches and the metal colonnade look beautiful under the street lamps, with the Tower lit up just behind. A favorite for couples.

Pont d'Iéna and the Seine riverbanks

The bridge in front of the Tower and the quays below give photos with the lights reflected in the water.

Champ de Mars

The long lawn at the foot of the Tower gives the full Tower in the frame, perfect for families and groups.

How I handle the light at night

Night photos are where experience really matters. The Tower is bright, the surroundings are dark, and faces need to stay natural. I position you carefully against the light of the Tower and the street lamps so you stay well lit, and I edit every photo myself to keep warm, true skin tones and a clean, elegant result. You won't get grainy phone-style pictures.

What to wear for a night photoshoot

  • Elegant evening outfits work wonderfully: a dress, a suit, a nice blazer.

  • Light or bright colors stand out better against the dark sky than black or navy.

  • Sequins and satin catch the light of the Tower beautifully.

  • In winter, a long coat and a scarf look great and keep you warm between shots.

Night photoshoot prices

Sessions after 5pm have their own rates: 30 minutes for €200 (10 edited photos) and 1 hour for €350. In winter, because night falls early, a late-afternoon session before 5pm can still end with the Tower lit up, at the day rate. Every detail is on the prices page.

Proposals and special occasions at night

A proposal under the sparkling Eiffel Tower is one of the most requested moments of my job. I help you pick the spot and the exact time, stay discreet until you ask, and then we continue with a short couple session. In December, a night session is also a beautiful way to see the holiday lights: see my guide to a Christmas and winter photoshoot in Paris.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the Eiffel Tower sparkle?

At the top of every hour, for five minutes, from nightfall until the lights go off around midnight (later in summer).

Is a night photoshoot more expensive?

Sessions after 5pm have their own rates (€200 for 30 minutes, €350 for 1 hour). In winter, a session before 5pm can already end with the Tower lit up at the day rate.

When is the best season for an Eiffel Tower night photoshoot?

Autumn and winter, because night falls early: you get the lit Tower without a late evening, and fewer tourists.

Will my photos be dark or blurry?

No. I work with professional equipment, place you carefully in the light and edit every photo myself for a clean, natural result.

Can we combine day and night photos?

Yes. A session starting just before sunset gives golden light, then the blue hour, then the Tower lit up and sparkling.
