Paris Photoshoot at Christmas and in Winter: The Complete Guide

3 min read

Many people think summer is the only season for a photoshoot in Paris. In reality, winter is one of my favorite times of the year: fewer tourists, soft low light all day, and in December the whole city is decorated for the holidays. Here is how to plan your Christmas or winter photoshoot in Paris.

Why winter is a great time for photos in Paris

  • Fewer crowds: the classic spots, including Trocadéro, are much calmer than in summer.

  • Beautiful light: the sun stays low, which gives soft, flattering light even in the middle of the day.

  • Holiday atmosphere: from late November, Paris is full of Christmas lights and decorations.

  • Coats and scarves look great: winter outfits are some of the most elegant in photos.

Night photos at the day rate

In December, the sun sets before 5pm. That means a late-afternoon session can start in daylight and end with the Eiffel Tower lit up, while still being booked at the day rate (sessions before 5pm). It's one of the best-kept secrets of winter photoshoots in Paris. All rates are on the prices page.

The best Christmas spots for photos

  • The Eiffel Tower: lit up from nightfall, it's the perfect backdrop for a festive evening session. See my Eiffel Tower photoshoot.

  • The Champs-Élysées: the avenue's trees are usually lit from late November to early January.

  • Place Vendôme and Avenue Montaigne: elegant, luxury decorations.

  • The department stores on Boulevard Haussmann: famous for their Christmas windows.

  • The Louvre and Palais-Royal: beautiful architecture, quieter in winter. See the Louvre photoshoot.

Holiday decorations change every year, so I'll suggest the best spots for your dates.

What to wear for a winter photoshoot

  • A long coat in a rich color (camel, red, burgundy or cream) stands out beautifully.

  • Scarves, berets and gloves add texture and a Parisian touch.

  • Layer underneath so you can take your coat off for a few shots without freezing.

  • Comfortable, warm shoes: we walk between spots.

Practical tips

  • Book early in December: the days are short, so late-afternoon slots are limited.

  • Sunrise is later in winter (around 8:30am), which makes an early, crowd-free session much easier than in summer.

  • Rain or cold: we keep an eye on the forecast together and adapt if needed. For really bad weather, I also offer indoor photoshoots.

Prices for a winter photoshoot

  • 30 minutes, 1 area, 10 photos: €160 before 5pm

  • 1 hour, 20 to 30 photos: from €220

  • 2 hours, 2 areas, 40 to 45 photos: from €400
