Thanksgiving in Paris: A Family Photoshoot to Remember the Trip

2 min read

More and more American families spend Thanksgiving week in Paris. It's a great idea: the city is calmer than in summer, the first holiday lights are going up, and the whole family is together. A family photoshoot is the perfect way to keep a beautiful memory of that trip, with everyone in the picture for once.

Why Thanksgiving week is a good time for photos

  • Fewer crowds than in summer at the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.

  • Soft autumn light that's flattering all day long.

  • The start of the holiday season: the Christmas lights usually go up in late November.

  • Everyone is together: grandparents, parents and kids in the same place, which doesn't happen often.

Timing in late November

The sun rises around 8:15am and sets around 5pm. Late morning is often easiest with kids and jet lag. A session around 4pm gives soft light and can end with the Eiffel Tower lit up, still at the day rate (sessions before 5pm).

What to wear in late November

Coats in coordinated colors (camel, navy, cream, burgundy), scarves and hats look great and keep everyone warm. Bring layers so kids can take their coat off for a few shots. More tips in what to wear for a Paris photoshoot.

I'm used to working with kids

Kids don't need to stand still to get beautiful photos. I keep the session playful, follow their energy and take individual portraits and smaller groups too: grandparents with grandkids, siblings, parents together. Read more in my guide to family photoshoots in Paris with kids.
